Peas Value Added

1. Spread work load - early plant (April) & Summer Harvest (August).
2. No special equipment; grain drill, 15” row planter and combine.
3. No additional drying costs; air will dry down from 18% harvest moisture
to 14% storage moisture.
4. Do not need to be extruded or roasted to be fed.
5. Extremely palatable. Excellent acceptance whole, cracked, or fine ground.
6 Excellent N source. 1-1.25 lbs/bushel produced. Unlike soybeans, peas continue to increase in Nitrogen carry over as yield increases.
7. Excellent soil conditioner- Corn and forage grasses have shown to yield better after peas than after soybeans.
8. Allow more time to plant wheat, spread manure, fall tillage, etc.
9. Extremely frost/freeze tolerant, 16 degrees for 18-20 hours.
